KYOTO INSPIRED COLORADO RANCH

Working on projects often grants us the privilege of engaging with incredible natural landscapes untouched by human hands. This project was particularly awe-inspiring, set against the backdrop of the continental divide, with rivers flowing into lakes and fields dotted with horses. Faced with such a powerful and majestic scene, I found myself whispering, “don’t screw this up.” The terrain was hilly and rocky, and having recently returned from Japan, where I marveled at their ancient temples adorned with layers of heavy, brooding rooflines resembling man-made mountains, I was inspired. Why not attempt to echo the surrounding scenery with a creation of our own?
