MOUNTAIN RETREAT JARABACOA
Maybe twenty years ago, we designed a home utilizing the structure of an old 1800s barn, and our future client, having discovered an article about it, sought to create something similar. Intriguingly, he lived in the Dominican Republic. Embracing the challenge, we embarked on this project as part of a larger endeavor to develop a master plan of buildings on a vast farm in the mountains of Jarabacoa. We sourced a barn in Pennsylvania, had it disassembled, shipped to the DR, and reassembled, situating it atop a substantial lower level comprising bedrooms, porches, and service areas. The addition of a barn for his Peruvian walking horses and some casitas for extra guests transformed the area into a quaint mountain village of stone and wooden buildings.
