T Magazine recently paid a visit to the house we’ve built for ourselves on a hillside in Mountain Brook. The two-acre site is steep, the soil is unforgiving, and the driveway alone gave most people pause. But that’s exactly the kind of site we love: one that demands something of you, and gives back more than you expected. The house cascades down the incline in a series of plateaus, intimate rather than grand. After a lifetime of listening to other people’s sites, it felt right to finally listen to our own.
