Some clients are delegators, some are collaborators and some are instigators. The first two client types are the preferred partners and this client was one hundred percent delegator. The first time we met I doodled out an initial rough concept and he said, “do it!” This level of freedom, while exhilarating, also carries its weight in responsibility, pushing me to delve deeper into the creative process, driven by the desire not to disappoint. There was no idea or detail he didn’t let us do or encourage to pursue. A favorite aspect of this house is how we were able the merge modern design with some ancient architectural forms, and the power of water to make a place feel alive.
